James hit a three from the Ball Arena logo to give the Lakers a 60-57 halftime lead. He didn’t miss a three-pointer in the first half, making all three of his long-range shots and going 7-for-10 overall.

It’s the best outside shooting year of James’ career, with the Lakers superstar reinventing himself as a three-point shooter in Year 21. He made 41% of his triples during the 2023-24 regular season, the best mark of his career. For a Lakers team that dominates in the paint but shoots the third-fewest threes in the NBA, James’ accuracy beyond the arc has been huge.
Unfortunately, James’ teammates aren’t matching his deadeye shooting. D’Angelo Russell missed all of his first-half threes, while Austin Reaves didn’t connect from deep until the second half.
Against a Denver team with a massive frontcourt of Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter, Jr., the Lakers need to add outside shooting to their interior scoring diet. King James is doing a lot, but he can’t do it all.
