The Kansas City Chiefs' offensive line got off to a bit of a rough start in Super Bowl LVIII, but it improved drastically throughout the game and played a big role in the win. Left guard Nick Allegretti was a solid contributor to those efforts, and his impact is even more impressive considering what he had to deal with.
Per a recent report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Allegretti played through a serious elbow injury on Sunday. It's a torn UCL for the fifth-year man, who was on the field for all 79 offensive snaps anyway.

Allegretti was putting on an impressive show in the postseason already, given the Chiefs were without All-Pro Joe Thuney. Thuney suffered a pectoral injury in the Divisional Round, forcing Allegretti into the lineup for the rest of that contest and then both the AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl. Allegretti played a combined 173 snaps in those three weeks, including 81 in the conference title game.
Pro Football Focus credits Allegretti with a team-high seven pressures in the Super Bowl, although the tape reflects a player who performed better than that. The decline in play from Thuney was on display in recent games, but he still did an admirable job helping keep quarterback Patrick Mahomes clean as the postseason went on. Additionally, Allegretti's 66.3 run blocking grade from Sunday was the fifth-highest mark on the team.
At this juncture, it's unclear what Allegretti's recovery timeline for this injury will look like. The former seventh-round pick was on a one-year contract for 2023-24, so he's set to hit the free agent market in March. His value as a versatile backup is significant, so either the Chiefs or another NFL club will surely pursue his services as he enters his age-28 campaign in 2024-25.
